Quins v Leeds Carnegie - POSTPONED

By Quins
January 7 2010

With yesterday's snow and the cold weather not set to improve, Quins have made the decision to cancel this Saturday's Guinness Premiership game against Leeds Carnegie.

The decision was made not because of the pitch, which is still playable, but because of the safety of supporters, players and staff, who are likely to be at risk due to the icy conditions of the stadium concourse and the surrounding area.

The club has made every possible effort to see that the game would go ahead but the likelihood of gaining a safety certificate for the ground looked impossible.

If you have already bought tickets to the game, please be advised that you will receive a separate communication.

Saturday's game against Leeds has been postponed. Unsafe conditions within the ground for spectators as well as car parks and approaches to the stadium.

So a little bird told you?

If one wants to refer to Ugo as a 'little bird', then you could say that. Regarding the previous poster who shouted STOP spreading rumours, perhaps he/she would like to take up their grievance directly with Mr Monye.

So TBE... You rang the club and asked ?

Regardless of any announcement planned for tomorrow, I can well believe it.

It’s a job in itself trying to walk anywhere at the moment and I can’t see the areas in and around the stadium being any different. With all the surface ice everywhere it will be hazardous to walk let alone drive!

And with freezing temperatures set to continue this is sure to be the case on Saturday...

I'm easy, so to speak Big Easy ! One of the reasons I subscribe to Ugo's tweets is for tip offs like this (see my earlier thread) and coaches and players are always the first to know when games are off. It's up to everyone else to decide if they want to use the info posted. Of course I would always recommend confirming with official sources, but an Ugo tweet might one day just be the difference between making a wasted journey or not.

Oh well, let's hope they rearrange it for a Saturday afternoon in the warmer weather! And no mid-week nonsense, please Quins, unless absolutely necessary!

Are you guys and/or leeds looking likely to get out of you LCV= cup pool. As the obvious available date for these games will be that weekend if both clubs arn't involved,

Thanks for the invite but I would question your judgement inviting Quins fans to come and watch the Pirates - maybe Lexus could decide to go as well?!

You can’t have forgotten the ordeal suffered by Granite at the merciless hands of Lexus....?

I can't believe the club have called it off just because some of you lot can't stand a bit of ice & snow. Only joking, it's far too cold & probably cold enough to freeze the beer. Minus 12C in Shere this morning, anyone beat that?

Gutted and disappointed and all that if other places can operate safely ( ie schools) then makes no sense if pitch is playable etc come on Sale did it twice in bad weather, nope sorry cant agree with most on this.

However before you all find reason to go off on one, I totally understand the reasoning for the decision just it is only Thurs and no more snow till Sunday oh well a game I will prob miss cos it bound to be on a weeknight eve.

The reason given is that the ground would fail a safety inspection. This is governed by the Safety at Sports Grounds Act 1975. Richmond Council is responsible for issuing the certificate for the Stoop
Section F2 says what has to happen before a match. If the club thinks that there could be problems with passing an inspection, most likely the bit that says: "inspection of all gangways and exit routes for obstructions and ensure that they are capable of being used to their full capacity" because of icey conditions, then they are right to decide it now so people can try to avoid travel cost etc
Better that than wait until just before the game and have the away team on the coach back home... (thpough ti would be funny if home was Wycombe)
