Quins pull through with bonus point win despite heat at the coast. Second team in record 60-3 win over sad Kenya Polytechnic. Quins jump over fence for next game versus Impala. Quins made it four out of four wins with yet another bonus point victory over Mombasa in an away Kenya Cup league match played at the coast by the sunny beach. The 20-10 laboured victory came against a much improved Mombasa who are desperate not to be tagged the whipping boys of the First Division. Mombasa fielding former Impala player Oscar Osir at one time led the game 7-5 causing serious malaria amongst the Quins faithful. However despite the off display by Quins, the boys dug deep to secure their well deserved victory. Try scorers for Quins were Leslie ‘Omundu Khu Mundu’ Libasia with a brace, Cyrus ‘The Virus’ Omondi and George ‘Tattoo’ Karanu. All kicks seemed to have gone to the sea. Well done boys but the marathon still has a long way to go. No room for complacency. Whatever happened after the game at the coast only our departed ancestors may one day tell us. At least no one engaged the long arm of the law and all who went returned in one piece and in peace. A bit of advice to Mombasa RFC, at least buy your guests an after game drink. You will also be guests one day too!

The seconds left in town by themselves chose the right weekend to make a statement. Setting the highest score of the season so far, they pumped, pummelled, punished and pulverised a sorry looking Kenya Polytechnic who are making their debut in the 2nd division this year 60-3. The faithful who turned up to watch this early kick off game lost count at 24-0. Some even managed to count till 30-0. Thanks to the referee who was not imbibing at that early hour that we were able to learn of the final score. Quins fans being Quins stuck at the clubhouse and proceeded to get tired very very early indeed. By 5pm the clubhouse sounded as if it was 10pm. Dangerous to have a 3pm game only. Man of the match for the seconds was ‘ALL 22 WHO PLAYED’. Reinforced by seniors Jude Thumbi and Kennedy Gikaru the seconds turned the game into a training session for themselves. As last years runners-up, they are determined to go one better this year. That game saw the return of stalwart Charles ‘Cardo’ Cardovillis who has just returned North Korea (Pyongyang). Details of what he went to do there are best sought from him at your own risk. Well played Charlie.

This coming weekend sees Quins engage in a battle with their bitter rivals Impala across the fence. Quins will be determined to make amends for their 19-3 loss suffered against Impala during the floodlit tournament. The stakes here are definitely higher now as the Kenya Cup progresses. All in all it promises to be a good game with both sides having to dig deep after having lost players genuinely to the national sevens squad.

For the moment Quins remain perched at the top of the log with the rest of the pack following.

On a more serious note this is an appeal for members who did not pay their last year’s subscriptions and any new members in place to come forward and make the payments. We have a long season ahead of us and we need to sustain the club. Forms are at the club or on request will be sent online to you.

Members who paid last year will renew their membership after the 12 month period has expired from the date of payment.

Donations from well wishers are encouraged as well.

Bring in new members as well and let them know Quins is the place to be.
