Captain Shane Gives Us an Early Christmas Present

Watching the boys warming up Captain Shane looks lovely and The Wizard of OZ is showing off his kicking skills, don’t know why he is not even playing today! The boys come on the pitch led by Captain Shane and the first thing we have to do is all clap for Nelson Mandela, he is a very nice, important man who has died this week, lots and lots of people liked him very much.

Molly Writing The French people all have very pretty pink flags but they are playing in white, I think they would have looked better in pink white is boring.
Captain Shane does an excellent kick off and not very long after Irish get a penalty that Captain Shane gets!
Good start 3-0
Mr Heffalump does an excellent run and knocks over lots of French players but then one of the French player goes off injured and they get a penalty and kick it over.
3-3
Captain Shane kicks and then another good little kicky bit that gets the ball behind the line but Guy could not quite get there quick enough to score.
Small scrap down that end, French free kick. Excellent catch by Irish and good run by Alex, he is very small and very fast, and we like him!
Heffalump the Magnificent is doing very well rampaging all over the place.
The French did a good running bit but did not score.
Captain Shane did something a bit naughty so Graham said but he got away with it we were worried for a minute that he might get sent off.
Scrum, Irish get it, redo scrum French get it.
Fergus sent to bin for “supposed” high tackle!
Heffalump the Magnificent strikes again with more excellent rampaging! Penalty Irish, Captain Shane kicks and we get it. FANTASTIC!
6-3
Bit more stuff and a couple of scrums, long kick by Irish and then Irish have a little chat. They get the ball, super run by Captain Shane who gives the ball to Legs (there can only be one Tom!) Fowlie to score a lovely try.
11-3 looking good boys!
Captain Shane misses conversion but never mind we love him anyway.
Jebb off, Declan on and Fergus back from sin bin.
Fantastic quick run by Alex and Andy followed by line out which Irish get and a good bit by Guy. Nasty French person throws Darren on the floor. Dec goes off and Jebb back on.
Mr Heffalump dives into the scrum and Shane gets ball but then the French get a free kick.
Jebb and Mr Heffalump down, Jebb soon up but seems to have hurt his arm or shoulder but Heffalump the Magnificent is down for a long, long time; we all get very worried when they bring on stretchers and there is lots of fuss. But suddenly Mr Heffalump gets up a carries on rampaging, he truly is MAGNIFICENT! Some more scrumming and good kicking by Shane, five minutes until half time. Few more bits and Irish get another penalty which Captain Shane gets and it is half time.
14 -3
Much excitement at half time when we have our party food, sausage rolls, mince pies and Quality Street and we are all delighted to see THE LEGEND, Justin Bishop talking to Big Bob. Dobbin loves Justin and is very pleased to see him.

French kick off, another big hit by Mr Heffalump he really is doing a lot of rampaging and is playing very well, what a hero! Penalty to French, Graham who has been very calm today, shouts “Rubbish Ref” but the ref does not listen and they take the kick and get it.
14-6
Some excellent pieces from several of our players, especially Captain Shane but poor Fergus drops it and we don’t get the try. Never mind the drummers are drumming, bells are ringing and there is a lovely pink sky, COYI.
Scrum, French get it good tackle by Captain Shane. Legs Fowlie is showing off his lovely legs and white pants but still does not look quite as good on the wing as the Beautiful Losi!
Another scrum, Irish get it, lots of dropping of balls by the French, more good tackles by Mr Heffalump, fantastic run by Guy but ball went off the side of the pitch. French swap some players. A few more lineouts’s and couple of scrums then a really proper scrum and Irish get it but Nick is sin binned. French get a try.
14- 11 now that is a bit of a worry especially when they get conversion 14-13.
Kicks from both ways, Graham starts shouting, French player off hurt, Captain Shane takes a penalty, he gets it.
17-13, that’s better.
Lovely tackle by Eamonn, some scrums, bit of a scuffle, re-do scrum and Irish get it. Good kick from Captain Shane more swaps for French team and a baby scrap. Nick back from sin bin but Mike goes to sin bin, naughty boys, they really much stop all this naughty stuff it makes it very hard for the rest of the team to play with only 14 players. I hope Brian gives them a good telling off even if they are winning. Lots of bits over the West Stand side so I can’t see it properly but there are now some uncontested scrums. Graham says that is good for us and then even better the French player gets a yellow card. Scrum, Irish get ball, good bit by Captain Shane and Guy. A lovely quick try by Alex and conversion by Captain Shane.
24-13 we can breathe again.

Frenchies
Heffalump the Magnificent goes off and everyone stands up and claps and cheers, we love Mr Heffalump! Dec on.
French have ball but we get it a Shane does another lovely kick, mass replacements for Irish. BYE BYE Captain Shane, you are definitely our man of the match.
French player does a very nasty tip tackle and get’s a yellow card, we think it should have been red, bad man! Brave attempt by Eamonn but landed on top of a French person.
END OF MATCH, 24-13, well done IRISH!
Had a quick chat with some nice French supporters, couldn’t understand what they said but it was a nice chat. They gave me and Daisy a pretty pink flag each. Then off to see our boys. It was nice to see My Tom and Marland on his crutches but the very best bit was seeing and chatting to CAPTAIN SHANE!
