Too many Chiefs, not enough Irish!

Hi it’s Molly, your London Irish Ace Reporter.  I woke up this morning and thought I haven’t done a match report for a long time so asked Great Aunt Dobbin when I could do one and she said that they were looking for a reporter for today’s match.   Excellent - although Mum said I could only do it if I cleaned by bedroom up before we let to go to the Mad Stad.

It’s just before 3pm, the teams have been read out and I’m happy that no changes have been made and that Tom has returned. The Chiefs come onto the pitch – there is LOADS of cheering for them and then our boys come on, more cheering comes from the Irish supporters. Dec is captain and the match goes something like this.

Kick-off, early charge down by Chiefs and tummy slide by Tom Homer. Topsy misses a Chief and they get a try but can’t convert – 0 v 5.

Good tackle by Jamie, Chiefs get a penalty and score – 0 v 8.

Line out & Chiefs get it – nice tackle from Tom but referee gives Chiefs another penalty, Chief got it – not good! 0 v 11 also not good.

At last, a penalty for Irish – Ian kicking today and he gets it – 3 v 11.

Match starts again – Losi drops the ball!!!! Irish are not doing well another penalty for Chiefs score now 3 v 14. Loads of noise and chanting coming from the Chief supporters and lots of Irish supporters shouting ‘wake up Irish’.

Another try and conversion for Chiefs 3 v 21 and then we get another penalty – good kick by Ian 6 v 21.

Now it starts raining – the players are slipping on the pitch and there is a baby scrap and then a super kick by Tom. It then gets boring – the ball is being kicked back and forth. Losi gets the ball which is knocked out of his hand , there is a lineout, Chiefs have the ball again, it’s really raining now. Everybody is shouting because we are only a metre away from the try line – Irish have a try (I think Irish got a try but not quite sure because there is a big pile of players). Yes – a great try from Losi (Happy 30th birthday Losi by the way). Ian kicks & converts - 13 v 21.

Irish drop the ball, lineout which we get – great. Great catch from Tom, another lineout which turns into a scrum which is pushing towards Chiefs side. Chiefs drop ball, another wonky lineout, 50 seconds left till half-time. Score at half-time 13 v 21.

As the boys come back on, it is announced that Leo scored the try, not Losi. Game starts, oh dear, oh dear, boys still asleep. Rubbish lineout, more boring waste of time kicking, then a scrummy bit and then a try by Topsy woopy do!! ‘There’s only one Topsy Ojo, one Topsy Ojo’, converted by Ian – 20 v 21. That’s better Irish, much better! Penalty to Irish, long kick but we got it score looking good now 23 v 21. There is another scrap; I notice that Tom and Dec stay out of it, another penalty to Chiefs score now 23 v 24.

Another scrum and Losi get the ball, Dobbin goes MAD!!! Much better play from Irish. Then Tom gets hurt and has a bandage wrapped round his head, he looks likes Pudsey! Pudsey takes the kick but unfortunately he misses (I think the bandage was covering his eye up).

The rain is really heavy now, Pudsey makes a great catch, passes to Shane who kicks the ball and hits Digger! Irish almost get another try, but didn’t unfortunately. Good tackle by Matt, good bit by Shane, penalty to Irish which Pudsey misses but it was a long, long way from the posts. Score still 23 v 24. Nice catch by Topsy, an Irish and a Chief both jump to get the ball and they crashed! Alex Gray on, Chris off. Scrum, Chiefs get ball – 10 minutes left! Another scrum, Irish get the ball, 7 minutes left! Boring scrummy bit went on for 3 minutes, Max off, Cai on. All the Chief supporters began cheering because they thought that Chiefs had got a try but they hadn’t so very lucky Irish. Score still 23 v 24. 2 minutes and 30 seconds left, Chiefs get a penalty and score! I’m angry now score now 23 v 27. 15 seconds left, don’t let them get the ball, they get it and kick it out, game over. Chiefs win 23 v 27.

I’m not happy with the boys today especially as they didn’t come over and see us after the match.

I hope things get better VERY soon and that Tom is ok!
