2009/10 Player of the Season

So, after such a mixed season, how do you go about selecting the Player of the Season? Well fortunately, The Craic awards its Player of the Season award to the man who has earned the most Man of the Match awards from our post-match polls. Phew!

Clearly, injuries have had a major impact on who's been able to play and therefore, who's been eligible each week to receive the accolade from the Craic supporters. I'm sure the figures below may have been different if some of our squad hadn't been ruled out due to long term injuries. Whether this would have affected the final result though ...

Like last year, it's obviously been a team effort this. Of the 45 players eligible, First XV and Academy, only 5 of them never received a nomination and of those 5, well they only come off the bench 14 times between them so didn't really get the chance to shine. In fact Max Anderson and Ben Stevenson never even came on and James Tideswell made 10 of those 14 appearances from the bench, Robert Herring (1) Kieran Low (1) and Marcus Watson (2) being the others.

What about those guys who managed to play, were nominated but didn't get to win ...

Delon Armitage ... 3 nominations from 12 appearances
James Buckland ... 2 from 14
Mike Catt ... 3 from 12
Danie Coetzee ... 3 from 24
Alex Corbisiero ... 6 from 10
Clarke Dermody ... 9 from 22
Jonathon Fisher ... 2 from 4
Matt Garvey ... 1 from 11
Jamie Gibson ... 6 from 11
Charlie Gower ... 2 from 3
Max Lahiff ... 2 from 5
Chris Malone ... 5 from 23
Seilala Mapusua, last year's winner ... 7 from 26
Dan Murphy 2 from 29
Topsy Ojo ... 3 from 7
Andy Perry ... 1 from 15
Faan Rautenbach ... 3 from 25
Richard Thorpe ... 7 from 22

So, to those that actually won the weekly award ...

With 1 win each ...

Out Illustrious Captain, Bob Casey ... 28 games (1 as sub), 7 nominations (1 as sub)
Declan Danaher ... 7 games (1 as sub), 5 nominations
Chris Hala'Ufia ... 24 games, 14 nominations
Gary Johnson ... 6 games (2 as sub), 2 nominations
Peter Richards ... 16 games (10 as sub), 5 nominations (2 as sub)
Kieran Roche ... 25 games (11 as sub), 5 nominations
Elvis Seveali'i ... 27 games, 7 nominatons
Adam Thompstone ... 5 games, 1 nomination

With 2 wins each ...

Peter Hewat ... 31 games (2 as sub), 15 nominations (1 as sub)
Paul Hodgson ... 22 games (2 as sub), 11 nominations (1 as sub)
Tom Homer ... 20 games (4 as sub), 10 nominations
Jamie Lennard ... 12 games (8 as sub), 3 nominations (1 as sub)
John Rudd ... 20 games (5 as sub), 11 nominations
George Stowers ... 17 games (6 as sub), 10 nominations
Sailosi Tagicakibau ...12 games, 4 nominations

With 3 wins each and in joint 2nd place ...

Ryan Lamb ... 26 games (8 as sub), 12 nominations
David Paice ... 23 games (7 as sub), 10 nominations (2 as sub)

And so, to this year's winner with 5 Man Of The Match awards from his 28 games (1 as sub) which received a total of 22 nominations, a remarkable percentage I think you'd all agree ...

The 2009/2010 Craic Player of the Season is ...

Steffon Armitage

Steffon deservedly joins Naka, Phil, Bob, Paul, Shane, Declan and Seilala, our previous winners.

Interesting to see the lowly position of Delon.

Totally agree with the award going to Steff, brother Delon is becoming a premadonna and needs to come back to reality.

Congrats to Steffon, well deserved - And a good story Bill.

I'm surprised to see Hodgson only received two awards. With 18 winners from 33 games (32 regular season / cup games), maybe that shows how we all watch different parts of the game.

BTW, honorable mentions to Maps, Bob, Peter, Elvis and Ryan for their total number of appearances, starter or from the bench.

To be honest - it couldn't be anyone else this season - he's put in 100% every minute of every game he's played.

Well done Steff!

I should say that David Paice and Chris Hala'Ufia shared the award in HC game 5 which results in the 33 awards in 32 games.

Props are not stupid

Also possibly the only player who didn't miss games though suspension or injury!
