The  European Champions Cup place is still a possibility despite Sale taking the points in a scrappy Friday nighty 7-16 defeat for the home side. 

The defeat handed an opportunity for  Irish but they lost 27-24 in the dying minutes at Bath and so finish their season on 63 points.

Wasps now go into their their last game at Tigers on June 4th on 60 points and needing a win. A big ask, but Tigers are already guaranteed top spot and a home game in the play-offs so they may be concentrating on that..

It all looked so different when Gabriel Oghre have his side an early lead only for Sharks to take advantage of too many home penalties with Robert du Preez's boot cutting the half-time advantage to just one point.

Wasps failed to trouble the scorer in the second half. They suffered a mighty low when Elliot Stookesuffered a horrible leg injury as he landed and had to be stretchered off. 

Sale took advantage of the weakened scrum and got their only try of the game when Akker van der Merwe was able to get over from close range.

Another penalty took the losing  bonus point out of Wasps' grasp and Jimmy Gopperth's long range penalty in the last minute fust failed to restore it.
