For once it was Wasps who staged the big finale. Trailing for most of the game against a resolute Falcons they finally nudged ahead with a late Jimmy Gopperth penalty to take a 27-24 win.
It was tense stuff with a rare hat trick for a hooker - George McGuian staking his case to Mr E. Jones.
Falcons twice got more than one try ahead only for Wasps to peg them back. The visitors were 10-0 up before Dan Ropbson celebrated his 150th game courtesy of a Jack Willis break. McGuigan scored again only for Joe Launchbury to stretch out to socre right on half-time to make it 17-14 to Falcons .
Some controversy when Will Porter was sin-binned. He couldn't take a ball which went into touch with Falcons claiming he had denied winger Adam Radwan a try-scoring chance.
That man McGuigan duly completed his hat-trick only for Wasps to draw level at 24-24. The score came courtesy of an intercept from Launchbury which led to Tom West going over.
Falcons had the chance to go ahead again but fly half Haydon-Wood missed an easy penalty only for Jimmy Gopperth to show him how to do it.
Jimmy fell over as he spotted the penalty - but he often does.
