The balance sheet for the Simon Shaw Benefit Year Curry has been published and agreed, and the outcome is that the event has made a net profit of slightly under £3800. Simon's Benefit Committee have asked that this money is divided equally between the two benefiting charities, NSPCC and SPARKS.

It is notable that the full amount has been given to the charities without anything being taken into the Fund itself.

The Drunken Wasps would like to make an additional contribution out of its own funds. We generate a surplus in our activities throughout the year, and disburse this as suitable causes come to light.

It is our intention to make the amount distributed up to £5000 in total, giving £2500 to both of Simon's charities.

We will be making arrangements to formally present this to the representatives of NSPCC and SPARKS in due course.

This amazing amount has only been achieved by the support of the various supporters groups of our activities throughout the year.

Sophie Moss from the NSPCC said: "This is really exciting! Thank you so much for this. £25 could pay for an hour of an NSPCC therapist's time so your £2,500 would pay for 100 hours of therapy for children to help them recover from any type of abuse, which will make a real difference to our work."

Tara Mallett from SPARKS said: "Thank you very, very much for your support. For a small charity like SPARKS, this money really does make a difference. £2,400 pays for a one year supply of tissue culture, serum and growth factors for cutting edge medical research into Neuroblastoma, the most aggressive and unpredictable childhood cancer killer of the under 5's. It remains one of most difficult paediatric cancers to treat. Thank you everyone! You're superstars!".

On their behalf, thanks very much. Pat yourselves on the back tonight, and feel a little better if your contributions to our activities helped generate this amount of money.

This donation brings the amount of money paid out from the DW Fund to various charities and good causes to £20,450 - not bad for a bunch of inebriate rugby supporters.
