Great news for curry loving Wasps fans – our match in Worcester in January being Friday has opened up a window of opportunity for a DW/LWSC function to take place on a Saturday. An excellent coincidence as we needed to schedule the Simon Shaw Benefit Year Curry Night.

Simon Shaw’s Benefit Year Curry Night

Saturday 27th January 2007, Clay Oven Banqueting Suite, Alperton
(For directions, see: Streetmap)

6.30pm drinks for 7.30pm first course

Carriages 1.00am Sunday

All food, beer and soft drinks included.

We have been asked by Simon to host another one in the series of Player’s Curries. Those people who have been before know exactly what to expect. Those who haven’t been able to make it should pull out all the stops to get to Alperton on the 27th January 2007 for a really great Indian meal.

On the menu is as much truly excellent food as you can eat; all beer* and Magners* included in the price of the ticket; top class entertainment; but above all the opportunity to spend up to six hours in the company of friends, players, staff and coaches in a completely informal atmosphere. The late John Langley described these evenings as being “just like the old days of the Club” – and that is as good as it gets, in my book.

We are introducing something slightly new this year – “Player’s Tables”. A limited number** of tables will be available for nine guests, and taking one of these tables will get you the company of one of the attending players for the meal. These will be offered on a strictly first-come, first-served basis and, due to the nature of sports injuries, representative selection etc, no particular player can be selected***.

The pricing will be £45 for an individual ticket, or £450 for a Player’s Table (for 9 people). Tables for 10 people without a player will also be available for £450. As usual, a percentage of all profits from Simon's benefit fund will be given to children’s charities. Simon’s charities this year are SPARKS ( http://www.sparks.org.uk ) and the NSPCC ( http://www.nspcc.org.uk ). Representatives of these organisations will be present and available to discuss their fantastic work. Check Simon’s website for more details ( http://www.simonshawbenefit.com ).

Menus and a detailed timetable of events will be published in due course on this website. Please note that other cuisines will not be offered this year.

Orders should be placed by sending an email to shawsie.curry@drunkenwasps.com stating your requirements.

In summary – lots of beer, lots of curry, lots of friends, lots of fun!

* Brands subject to availability. Wines and spirits will be available at Clay Oven bar prices.

** The exact number will depend upon how many players can attend.

*** At short notice it might be necessary to change an assigned player, or to refund 1/10th of the price if a player cannot be replaced. If the number of players attending decreases as short notice, the last table purchased will be the first affected, and so on.
