Local rugby news from our region always welcome if anyone has news from their own clubs.

Thats a good match report Leipy. I think you've got it bang on the money.

Plus, it was a happy result.

We had a swarm of Kendal Hornets at todays game. Lots of U7's & U8's took part in the Tag Festival ahead of the game, then a bunch of the Senior players came to watch the game.

Thanks for the report Leipy. Some food for thought ahead of our visit to Raygarth this weekend. Carlisle stopped the run of losses in November with a convincing win over Warrington on Saturday. Our pack dominated the opposition yet again, so hoping for a decent performance against Kirkby on Saturday. Shows what a competitive league this is. Pity that the competitions cttee are proposing such sweeping changes for season 16/17 that potentially a number of Cumbrian clubs will be excluded from this level of Rugby.

Flumpty - yes I pointed out the little Hornets to people, good to see lots of kids around and playing at half-time.

Doonhamer - please do tell more about these league changes! Thanks for the note on this Saturday too, I might go down to Kirkby and watch that game, depending on how Mrs Leipy and I are doing after her work Christmas night out on Friday!

There's another BIG Cumbrian fixture this weekend
Carlisles Minis are playing Kendal Hornets Minis across all of the agegroups -- something like 200 children taking part !

Flumpty - Its great to see so many kids taking part. The Falcons community team should take some credit for this,through the various camps across the region to stimulate interest. Plus the tag tournaments on Falcons game days keeps them involved. But its also down to local club volunteers to keep the momentum going. Carlisle hosted one of the national Lexus sponsored Mini tag tournaments recently and it was thronged with kids from all over the North and Scotland. After the 2003 world cup there was a significant boost to junior rugby player numbers, my son included, so hopefully next year we'll get even more playing.

Leipy - The RFU's Adult Competitions review is the stimulus for the changes proposed for Cumbria. Interested to hear if changes are proposed in the NE. Yet to see the final proposals but likely to affect the game at level 6 and below more. So provided the "Mighty" Kendal keep mighty you'll not be troubled by it! Short report in the Cumberland News web edition today refers to it

Looks rather introspective with Lancs teams playing Lancs teams and Cumbria teams playing Cumbria teams at this level. Can't see that as being good for the development of rugby at this level.Its mainly because the NW teams don't want to travel much more than a few miles. Have always enjoyed our trips away,as have the players. Travel's a fact of life in Cumbria, whether its to neighbours Wigton or New Brighton(which is nearly in N Wales). Understand we'll get to know more by the end of this season, but next seasons league positions will be crucial.

it'll be interesting how this all works out in the end - there are going to be some people who will feel very hard done to.
