Durham sign Aussie Lewis as replacement for Noffke

Durham have sign Australian pace bowler Michael Lewis as cover for the injured Ashley Noffke. Lewis will arrive in time for the one day match against Leicestershire on Sunday. Michael Lewis has been described as a genuinely hostile pace bowler and plays his cricket for Victoria. He has had some contact with the English county game during a spell with Glamorgan last summer.

Lewis has taken 168 first class wickets in his five year career and averages just over 29 with the ball.

There is no doubt that he has come highly recommended by new captain Michael Hussey who will have had plenty of oppotunities to see him in action.

There may be some disappointment among the younger bowlers who could have hoped to profit from Noffke's absence but as long as Lewis proves to be more effective than his countryman Shaun Tait it should be a good move for the club...
