More Bad Luck And Poor Performance For Rubens |

Ninth place for Rubens Barrichello was a disappointing end to a very disappointing race weekend at the Spanish Grand Prix. The first sign of problems for Rubens appeared when his car suffered hydraulic failure at the beginning of the weekend and he was not able to go out for one of the free practice sessions. Rubens bad luck continued on Saturday when he was forced to replace his engine for some mysterious reason. His first qualifying session was nothing to shout about when he was almost a second of the fastest time set by Jarno Trulli, finishing the day in ninth place. Since Rubens changed his engine on Saturday the team saw no reason to turn a lap in Sunday qualifying and risk damaging the car. The Brazilian took no time and would start third last, only in front on Nick Heidfeld, who had also changed his engine and Jordan's Tiego Monteiro. Rubens continued an unimpressive showing as he raced in the 2005 Spanish Grand Prix. Barrichello was able to pass the absurdly slow Jordans and the stalled Minardis on the run down to turn one, but from then on his progress was halted and he cruised around in the middle of the field for the remainder of the race. Rubens poor showing wasn't necessarily reflective of his driving ability, although many have suggested that he is loosing his touch, signs point to his Bridgestone tyres as the cause for his lackluster performance drive to ninth. Here is what the Brazilian had to say about his race. “I had a really difficult race. The tyres were getting better as the race progressed, but then they developed blisters and I could not do any more. I had a lonely race and I was never able to push as hard as I wanted as I was not very happy with the balance of my car. I did not seem to have the pace today.” |
