Former Town striker Darren Bent has missed out on a trip to Germany for this summer’s world cup finals.

Bent left Town last summer and joined Charlton, part of the deal that saw him leave Town was that Town would get £200,000 for each of his first two competitive England appearances, but Sven Goran Eriksson has left the 22-year-old striker out of the squad despite him scoring 22 goals for Charlton this season.

 

Bent: “I am obviously really disappointed, I wasn't taking anything for granted and knew that it was by no means certain that I would be included, but being the leading English goalscorer in the Premiership I was very hopeful of being included.

 

“All I can do now is go away on holiday, recharge my batteries and look forward to next season.”
