With Town’s current team struggling to score goals, Singing The Blues is taking a look at how some of our former players are getting on.
Darren Bent: As is well documented Bent left Town in the summer and joined Charlton Athletic in move that could be worth £3million to Town, since leaving Town the deal Charlton got has looked like one of the best bits of business of the century with the young striker netting 9 leagues goals and being called up to the England squad.
Shefki Kuqi: Left Town on free transfer and joined Blackburn Rovers on free transfer, his early season form was poor and he didn’t net his first goals for his new club until the start of October when he scored twice against West Brom and last weekend he scored another double, this time Man City got on the wrong end of the flying Finns boots and his other goal this season came against West Ham.
Tommy Miller: Joined his boyhood club on free transfer, probably the player Town miss most from last season his goals were important, sadly for him the form from last season at Town has not carried on into this season, just two goals so far and he has dipped in and out of the Sunderland team.
Kelvin Davis: Another transfer to premiership, a £1.25 million move to Sunderland, his first game for his new club couldn’t have been much worse, 3-1 defeat against Charlton where Darren Bent got two of the. Great ‘keeper as he was at Town he has been unable to really reproduce the form he showed at Portman Road at the Stadium of Light with 23 goals being put past him in 13 games and he even lost his place in the Sunderland team to young ‘keeper Ben Alnwick.
Pablo Couñago: There was undoubted quality in Pablo but last season saw a very lazy version of the Spaniard who seem to have accepted that he wouldn’t be getting a new contract, he joined Spanish La Liga Malaga in the summer so far has scored just two goals for his new side both coming against Real Betis in a 5-0 win.
Marcus Bent: Now in his second season at Everton and it must be going down as one of his worst ever season, just one goal in 760 minutes of football and he has only started and finished two games so far. He has recently been linked with a move to Charlton.
Alun Armstrong: Currently playing for Rushden and Diamonds on a short term contract in league 2, as of today he has scored one goal in 7 games.
Matt Holland: Charlton captain but has spent large parts of this season out of the first team picture at the Valley due to injury but now he is fit he is still finding it hard to force his way back into the side.
Darren Ambrose: Not a bad season for Ambrose but he has failed to set the world alight like Darren Bent but the move from Newcastle to Charlton has certainly helped him improve as a player.
Herrmann Hreidarsson: Virtually ever-present for the Addicks this season, missing just one game in the league helping Charlton to three clean sheets in the opening four games.
Matt Bloomfield: After nearly breaking into the Town first team he was allowed to leave and he joined Wycombe where he has been since, so far this year he has scored three goals in 19 appearances for the Chairboys.
Titus Bramble: Currently managing to appear regularly on the team sheets of Graeme Souness but not pulling up trees.
Kieron Dyer: Unable to find his way in to the
Well that’s part one of the Ex-files over, more to come at a later date.
