Ipswich Town skipper Jim Magilton is backing Town striker Sam Parkin to score his first goals for Town at home be a hit.

Parkin has been under fire from small sections of Portman Road crowd but Jim believes that some home fans have not seen the best of Sam who joined Town in the summer from Swindon.

 

Jim: “Sam has been unfortunate in a way that all his goals have come away from home and in some of those games he has been absolutely tremendous for us, at Brighton for example.

 

“So the home fans have perhaps not seen the best of him and he needs a goal at Portman Road to lift the pressure off him.

 

“The fact that he has not been the threat at Portman Road that he has been away is mainly down to the fact that we have not been playing well at home as a team and not creating chances for him.

 

“But he is worth his weight in gold to us. I have the highest respect for Sam and I have told him that.

 

“I have sat down and spoken to him a few times and he knows what he means to this football club, what he means to the lads in the dressing room.

 

“Like most strikers, confidence is a big factor for him but I can only see him getting better here and going on to prove himself as a top quality forward.”
