Report: Town Vs Cardiff
Ipswich Town kept up the pressure on the top two with a vital win against Cardiff City at Ninian Park last night.
Tommy Miller’s 6th penalty of the season was enough to see off the Bluebirds keeping Town in touch with the top two who both had good wins and send Cardiff closer to the drop zone.
Cardiff, despite their lowly league position have only once in their last six home games and could of made once in seven as they more than matched Town and stopped Town having any real chances until the 35th minute and that was a tame Darren Bent effort which was well held with ease by Neil Alexander in the Cardiff goal.
Town started to find their feet in the final 10 minutes of the first half with Shefki Kuqi also failing to really test the bluebirds shot stopper.
Fabian Wilnis had the first chance of the second half with his effort taking a deflection into the arms of Alexander, Darren Currie also came close with volley just before Town took the lead thanks to Tommy Miller’s spot kick.
Fabian Wilnis found the midfielder just out side the Cardiff box and great little bit of skill brought him into the Cardiff box but he was brought down by Danny Gabbidon, Miller took his 6th penalty of the season and kept up his 100% penalty record placing the ball in the bottom right of the goal to give Town the lead in the 62nd minute.
Cardiff were unlucky not to level things up at the restart with Jobi McAnuff only stopped by Kelvin Davis, Lee Bullock also tried to level things up with 15 minutes to go Richard Naylor’s last minute tackle stopping him from getting his shot away.
Town held of Cardiff who threw every one forward in the final minutes to get the win and remain 3 points behind Wigan and Sunderland.
