Ipswich Town loanee David Unsworth has put Towns league position down to the quality of the team at Portman Road.

The 31-year-old who marked his debut in the blue and white of Town with a goal against Sheffield United which helped put Town five points clear at the top of the Championship table has said: “I had seen Ipswich on television and spent a great week training with them, and now that I played in a game with them I can see that they have the ability to move on.

“There is quality in the team and you can see why they are top of the table.

“The manager said that it was not a performance up to the usual standards, but we still won well.

“It was nice to get the goal but the most important thing was the three points.

“I have not played at this level before but the principles are still the same.”

Unsworth also praised the rest of the Town defenders on Saturday, adding: “Kelvin Davis was superb in goal while Fabian Wilnis gave a great defensive display. And Jason De Vos and Richard Naylor battered the Sheffield front men and were outstanding against a side that liked to pump long balls forward.”
