Report: Millwall Vs Town - Top Of League, Thanks Mr Burley
Ipswich Town squandered the chance to extend their lead at the top of the championship table today after losing 3-1 against Millwall.
Town had much more of the possession in the first half and a lot of the luck with injuries as Millwall lost 2 players in the first half alone, Paul Ifill and Darren Ward yet it was Millwall who got the first goal with their only shot of the first half in the 45th minute, substitute Barry Hayles lifting the ball over Kelvin Davis.
Seven minutes after the restart Millwall doubled their advantage, Kevin Muscat’s cross was met by Danny Dichio who side footed the ball past Davis and into the back of the Ipswich net.
It took Town just 10 minutes to get back into the game, Ian Westlake’s cross was met at the far post by Jason De Vos who passed the ball to Kevin Horlock whose shot took a deflection off Shefki Kuqi and into the net.
The flying Finn could of levelled things up moments later, sending the ball over Andy Marshall and landing it just wide of the post.
Town pressured Millwall for much of the second half but the it was the Lions who got the decisive goal 11 minutes before time, Matt Lawrence’s long clearance was met by Dobie who fired home to make it 3-1.
Town stay top of the league thanks to George Burley’s Derby County side who beat Wigan 2-1 at the JJB stadium, Sunderland lost 3-2 against Leeds United at the Stadium of light so remain 3 points behind Town, the only team in the top 4 to win was Reading who saw off Watford 3-0 at the Madejski Stadium and closed the gap on Town to just two points.
