Paul Jewell was, as expected, unveiled as the replacement for former Town manager Roy Keane at Portman Road earlier today.

The former Bradford, Sheffield Wednesday, Wigan and Derby County boss signed a two and a half year deal with Town and will take over from caretaker boss Ian McParland after Town’s Carling Cup semi-final first leg against Arsenal on Wednesday night.

Jewell: "It's a privilege to be Ipswich Town manager.

"It has all happened very quickly but there was no decision to make on my part. It was just down to the owner here and I'm obviously delighted that he offered me the job.

"I might have been out of work for the last two years but I've not been out of the game. I've been in Spain and Italy, watching other coaching techniques and working in the media as well.

"I was getting itchy feet when the phone call came through and it was perfect timing. I've had other opportunities but with respect, they didn't get the juices flowing like the Ipswich job.

"It's a fantastic football club and I'm looking forward to getting on with the challenge here. We need to get the players playing with more belief in themselves but that will come with winning football matches."

Jewell has spent the past two years doing TV work and touring the world to improve his football knowledge.

It's an interesting and unusual appointment I think we'd all agree. The polar opposite of Roy Keane in that Jewell's more easy going and approachable. And being from the city of culture, he's perfect!
