Report: Town 1-0 Barnsley

Town continued to move away from the relegation zone earlier today, clinging on to beat Barnsley 1-0 at Portman Road. Town manager Roy Keane made changes from the side that lost to Watford in midweek, Rosenior being dropped from the squad altogether being replaced by David Wright, Garvan, Leadbitter and Wickham all being dropped to the bench to be replaced by Norris, Edwards and Counago.
Town started badly, kicking the ball out of play straight from the kick-off but made amends soon after.
Counago and Murphy linking up well, just as Murphy looked set to shoot Ryan Shotton made a tackle, taking Murphy over in the box but appeals for a penalty were waved away.
A minute later Town took the lead, the ball appeared to be heading out of play and perhaps it would have if it wasn't for Pablo Counago keeping it, Counago ran past Barnsley ‘keeper Luke Steele who had rushed out of his area to the right hand touch line, Counago tried to curl the ball in from a tight angle but hit the post but Daryl Murphy was on hand to sweep in the lose ball to give Town the lead.
Counago, who was showing his old self again today, set Shane O'Connor free, O'Connor found Daryl Murphy who passed to Counago but the Spaniard couldn't get enough power behind his shot to beat Luke Steele.
Steele was on hand to deny Gareth McAuley his fourth goal of the season after McAuley headed a Delaney free-kick goalwards.
Walters came close in the 34th minute, firing just wide of the post as Barnsley looked out of their depth against Town in the first half.
The second half was a much different affair, Barnsley came out looking for a way back into the game, but with their finishing they have thought they were playing in the six nations, Nathan Doyle firing high and wide in the 49th minute.
Stephen Foster fired over as did Filipe Teixeira before Town manager Roy Keane tried to restore the balance of power in Town's favour, brining on Jaime Peters and Connor Wickham for Carlos Edwards and Pablo Counago.
The changes looked to have a worked a minute later, Peters crossed into Wickham who put the ball in the back of the net only for the linesman's flag to be raised against the 16-year-old.
The game headed towards the end with Barnsley attacking but hitting just about every section in the North Stand rather then the back of the net as Town clung onto all three points that lifted them to 15th in the Championship, 8 points above the drop zone and 13 above 23rd place Plymouth who visit Portman Road on Tuesday night.
