Andy Rhodes, father of former Town striker Jordan Rhodes says his son never wanted to leave Town to join Huddersfield.
The 19-year-old defender joined the League One in the summer and has since scored 6 goals in all competitions, but according to his father who is now goalkeeping coach at Preston, Jordan never wanted the move.
Andy Rhodes: "There is nothing Jordan wanted more than to be given a chance with Ipswich Town, he came back from talks with Huddersfield and trained at Playford Road the next day.
"Jordan's move was not a goer as far as the lad was concerned.
"But the following day the transfer was completed.
"He is happy where he is, but he wanted to stay with Ipswich."
Am sure he doesn't regret it too much right about now - would be surprised if he didn't get snapped up by a much bigger club in the near future - unless of course Huddersfield get promotion and he comes back to haunt us ala Ambrose!
I was talking to Rhodes, just days before he left. And he said he was really looking forward to this season under Keane. I suppose the guarentee of first team football turned his eye towards Huddersfield. Keanes biggest mistake so far in letting him go in my opinion though.
keane's in-experience of dealing with young players is showing hence why he's hardly looking at them with exceptions of wickham and colback, shame really he should remember who put him in the road to become a great player in the first place when he was a young player, the legend that is brian clough. same problem we had with jim magilton
To all Ipswich fans will you get over Jordan Rhodes for GODS sake he's gone and that is that. He is a good footballer which in turn may come and bite your bum who knows but he has gone end of story !!! I can remember a certain player call MARCUS STEWART back in the 90's WHY we sold him I will never know but we did to you which did bite us on the @#$%& big time. We had to get on with it in which we did 1or2 seasons later we went down. Get behind your team and stop nagging. ( PS hopefully see you next season!)
I don't think this is the site where Ipswich fans nag - no calls for RK out just yet!
In fact - we're all a bit optimistic at the mo - 3 good transfer window signings that'll transform the team and our results!
I think most people rated Rhodes and we never got to see him at his best - good to see he proved any doubters wrong with his start to the season - we are just a bit wary of the day that he does line up against us with a point to prove!
