Town’s play-offs have been dented again, following a 3-2 defeat against Preston at Deepdale yesterday. Preston took the lead after just six minutes yesterday, Alex Bruce was adjudged to have pulled down Steven Elliot in the area and Preston were awarded a penalty which Callum Davidson converted, although Richard Wright nearly stopped the ball with his legs.
Moritz Volz ventured forward and crossed into Jon Stead who could only send his header wide of the target. Stead's head again caused problems for the Preston defence, this time from an Alan Quinn corner, but Andy Lonergan in the Preston goal was up to the task of saving Stead's effort.
Town did equalise just after the half hour mark, Luciano Civelli was gifted the ball by Sean St Ledger, Luciano played the ball into Tommy Miller who finished well from inside the box.
Preston restored their lead four minutes before half time, a long ball over the top caused confusion in the Town defence, Alex Bruce and Richard Wright failing to communicate allowing Jon Parkin to head in from the edge of Town box.
Town went looking for a second equaliser at the start of the second half, Pablo Counago and Luciano Civelli both being denied by Andy Lonergan.
Preston doubled their advantage just past the hour, Ross Wallace whipping a corner in for Stephen Elliot to convert at the far post.
The lead was cut back to one goal just two minutes later, Eddie Nolan brought down Kevin Lisbie on the edge of the area, Tommy Miller stepped up to take the free-kick which he converted, firing the ball into the top right corner for his second goal of the day.
Town came close to an equaliser in final stages, Kevin Lisbie saw his effort come back off the inside of the post, Lonergan also stopped Lisbie's overhead kick.
