Town moved just two points off the top six, following a 3-1 win against QPR at Loftus Road yesterday evening. Town made just one change from the side that beat Nottingham Forest in mid-week, the injured Danny Haynes was replaced in the starting line up by David Norris.

It took the home-side just three minutes to take the lead, Wayne Routledge turning Ben Thatcher before crossing in for Samuel Di Carmine to poke home from close range.

Damien Delaney nearly headed into his own net from a Town corner after 12 minutes when he headed just over his own bar for another Town corner, which Alan Quinn took swinging the ball into the box, for QPR to clear as far as David Norris who sent the ball back into the middle for Jon Stead to somehow squeeze the ball past the ‘keeper to make it 1-1.

Town nearly had the lead in the 36th minute when QPR's Gavin Mahon headed back towards goal, only for Counago to intercept before passing to Stead who could only fire wide from the edge of the box.

The home-side had calls for a penalty waved away by referee Stuart Attwell, Samuel Di Carmine claiming to have been pushed in the box.

Town took the lead in the 61st minute, Gavin Mahon was skinned by Counago before the Spanish striker went on to weave his way past three QPR defenders and fire the ball into the net past Lee Camp from 14-yards.

QPR made a change in the 67th minute, QPR's leading scorer Dexter Blackstock coming on for Damien Delaney as the home-side went in search of a goal.

A goal did come 3 minutes later, but for Town who made it 3-1. Alan Quinn's long pass over the top found Jon Walters on the edge of the QPR box, Walters fired the ball low past Lee Camp to make it 3-1 to Town.

Town survived a few late scares, including calls for a penalty from the home fans after Gareth McAuley appeared to take Routledge down from behind, TV replays show he got the ball. The 3 points travelled back to Suffolk, ending QPR's 9 game unbeaten run.
