Town climbed from 18th to 13th in the Championship table following a 3-1 win against Plymouth Argyle earlier today. Town made two changes from the side that drew with Nottingham Forest earlier in the week, Tommy Miller and Pablo Counago were both dropped to the bench with David Norris and Kevin Lisbie taking their places on the pitch.
Town nearly took the lead just three minutes into the game when Jon Walters made the most of an error in the homeside's defence, shooting from 12-yards only to see his shot take a slight deflection off Argyle ‘keeper and hit the post.
Plymouth came close to taking the lead after ten minutes when Rory Fallon crossed to an unmarked Paul Gallagher but thankfully Richard Wright was able to stop the shot.
Town looked shaky at set pieces and they were nearly made to pay for one Gareth McAuley gave away after the referee spotted him pulling back Fallon, Chris Clark sent the free-kick in and Fallon rose above the Town defence but headed into the side netting.
Town took the lead after twenty-eight minutes, David Wright crossed the ball into the box, Lisbie challenged for the aerial ball which came back off Karl Duguid and out to Owen Garvan who placed a low shot into the corner of the net.
Lisbie came close to doubling Town's advantage two minutes later when he managed to create a shooting chance, which he took, only to see the ‘keeper parry the ball out for a corner.
Town were lucky not to have conceded a penalty five minutes before halftime when McAuley, who was already on a yellow card fouled Fallon on the edge of the box, Plymouth were awarded a free-kick outside the box. Luke Summerfield took the kick, passing it Gallagher who was denied by Richard Wright.
Garvan got the second of his two goals in the forty-second minute, Lisbie crossed back to the Republic of Ireland U21 international who managed to guide his shot threw a crowded penalty area into the goal.
Town added a third goal just three minutes into the second half, Kevin Lisbie the scorer, following up on David Norris' shot which Larrieu could only parry for Lisbie to fire into the net.
Plymouth made their first change after fifty-five minutes, Craig Noone replacing Rory Fallon and Nicolas Marin replacing Jamie Mackie.
Garvan was looking for his hat-trick and came within a whisker of getting it when he took a free-kick Town had been awarded following a foul on David Norris by Marcel Seip. Garvan's effort was tipped over the bar by Larrieu.
In the 71st minute Plymouth made their final change with Summerfield going off and MacLean coming on, Town made their first changes of the afternoon with 74 minutes gone, Garvan and Lisbie going off with Miller and Stead coming on.
The homeside got a consolation goal in the 80th minute, Town's defence falling asleep allowed Craig Cathcart to head home a Noone free-kick.
Town ended the game with 10 men after David Norris received a second yellow card in stoppage time for kicking the ball away after Plymouth had been awarded a free-kick.
