STB Message boarder Leggi is back once again giving us an insight into Town’s opponents, on Saturday Town play Crystal Palace.
'The Eagles' travel the 88 miles from their Selhurst Park Stadium, South London, for Saturdays teatime TV treat. Having had a pretty good run at Portman Road in the recent seasons gone by, Neil Warnock's men have won 3 of the last 5 encounters in Suffolk.
Palace finished in 5th position last season just 2 points ahead of Town, but failed in the Play-offs to eventual runners-up Bristol City. One of just three teams that Mr Magilton's men did 'the double' over last term, The Eagles started the 2008/09 season in poor style drawing 0-0 at home to Watford, losing 2-0 at Deepdale, Preston, followed by another no score draw at home to Burnley. Worse was to come the following week when they were crushed 4-2 at Reading's Madejski Stadium, but they made amends in the next game, by beating new boys Swansea City 2-0 at Selhurst Park. Two more defeats followed though, both by 2 two goals to one, away at table toppers Wolves, then last weekend at Home Park, Plymouth, which leaves Warnock's men sitting in 21st position just a point from last place!
In the Carling Cup, Palace beat Hereford in round one by 2 goals to one, but were hammered in the second round At Elland Road, By third division Leeds. The Yorkshire club winning by 4 goals to nil.
It may seem like an Ipswich reunion when you look at Palace's forward line, Jamie Scowcroft, Shefki Kuqi and recent signing Alan Lee all having made the switch over the last few years, with the latter, the only one likely to play on Saturday. In midfield, players to fear are
Paul Ifill and Shaun Derry, both vastly experienced physical battlers.
Referee for Saturdays match is Mr D. Deadman(quite appropriate, as I feel that's what Mr M, will be if we lose), who has only 'reffed' a Blues game once, it was back in Feb 2006 against Burnley at Portman Road, a game which we won 2-1 and saw him yellow card 5 players and send off Burnley's Wayne Thomas.

Leggi Predicts: David Norris said in midweek that somebody is going to get a spanking by Town soon, Sadly I don't think it'll be this weekend, although I do think we'll win this with ease against a struggling Palace side. How Alan Lee would love to punish the club that's just sold him, but him and a couple aside, they will be no match for the boys in blue. An easy 3-0 win.
Bring on the Barnsley, that's when the 'spanking' will come.
