Thatcher On Trial

Town have taken former Charlton Athletic defender Ben Thatcher on trial and he will take part in tonight's game against Cliftonville. The 32-year-old defender has left Charlton after being unable to agree a new contract with the Addicks despite them wanting to keep the Welsh international at The Valley.

Ben can play at both left and centre back which is one of the areas Town manager Jim Magilton needs to find cover for as Matt Richards and Dan Harding do not appear to be Magilton's cup of tea any more.

Town manager Jim Magilton: "Ben is a proven player at the top level and we are well aware of his quality, we are taking the opportunity to look at each other over the next few days and then both Ben and ourselves will make a decision as to whether we want to move things forward."

Right he might be a little old and could have a 15 match ban if hes not careful in the first few weeks of the season.

But perhaps a more "dirty" player is something we have missed for the past few seasons.
