Town have made their first signing of the summer, Dutch defender Pim Balkestein has joined from Heerenveen for an undisclosed fee. The 21-year-old defender had a brief trial with Town towards the end of last season and impressed in a friendly against Spurs. He has signed on a two year deal with the option of a 3rd year.

Town manager Jim Magilton: "We are delighted to have Pim at this Football Club.

"He wasn't fazed by mixing with the first-team players when he came over for a trial with us.

"He's a confident lad. He was aggressive in his play and has a cultured left foot. He's 6ft 3in, is an organiser, he can pass a ball and is someone who is desperate for an opportunity.

"He paid his own flight to come over and play for us in a friendly at Tottenham. He showed a determination to play and his all round attitude and ability impressed me.

"Pim shows a belief in himself that he can come to Ipswich Town and make a real difference here and I like that. I think he has all the ingredients to have a bright future at this Football Club."

Right that's the defence close to sorted, next up Jim, a goalkeeper to play behind them.

hang about dont get carried away .we've signed a bloke who hasn't played for the

first team and close to signing a bloke who got relegated

It's alright saying we're close to signing a player who got relegated (I think we've signed him now)...But that player, despite them getting Relegated, they (Leicester) had the 2nd Best Defensive Record in The Championship. Hardly the fault of McAuley.
