Sadie (Shady Blue Lady) is back giving us her own unique look at Town’s game against Barnsley at Portman Road earlier today.
With just three home games left, today I have to try and make my report a short one, so today they decide to pull off their biggest win in 2007 so far.
Price, Wilnis, Bruce, De Vos, Wright, Peters, Garvan, O’Callaghan, Roberts, Lee and Walters are the 11 finding formation with Supple, Miller, Williams, Haynes and Jeffers as back up.
The game starts as Town hope to make right the defeat earlier on in the season at Oakwell. The North stand are presumably back from their tour and in the 1st minute the 1st corner has gone to the Visitors, K. Reid takes the kick for Barnsley before Peters clears and continues with the ball up the length of the wing, sending into the attacking area for Roberts, Roberts saw the opportunity and took it, thank God for that as that is all he done of any use the entire time he spent on the pitch. Town are a goal up on 1 and a half minutes.
Barnsley have the 1st free kick of the game too, this however does not lead to a goal at either end. A number of strange free kicks were given to the visitors in the early stages but the reason Barnsley are in the deep abyss of the Championship is made very clear
Town win their first free kick in the 11th minute after Lee is taken down, referee Mr. Bates finally gives the kick after stopping to sing the national anthem chipmunk style, ey, anyway O’Callaghan steps up, and with all the power behind him and his knobbly knees he sends the ball over.
Price is commanding well in the 12th minute, you have learnt well my little grasshopper, as Heckingbottom (poor kid) throws onto Howard who then send the ball into the box before Wilnis clears.
Soon after the ball is back in the Town half again with Wright on the ball facing up De Vos instructs him to kick it out to stop play, by this time whoever was down has got back up but following captains orders Wright stops play only for the throw in to be taken by Barnsley throwing back for a Price goal kick, you what, what was all that about!
Into 20 minutes Town come close from a corner but Barnsley no. 1 Colgan collects the ball safely.
The next chance is for the visitors with a ball from K. Reid supplying Howard in the box, Mr. Howard I have to ask when you are fighting for survival in the league what on earth makes you think that an overhead kick might work.
Town fans are thoroughly enjoying themselves today and continue to do so at the expense of everyone, with the attitude ‘If you can’t laugh at yourselves we are going to laugh even harder at you!’
In the 25th minute there seems to be more movement from kids in block JJ than there is on the pitch, believe me, I was laughing at them.
27 minutes gone, Walters finds Lee, wow give him a prize, and with top form that Lee has regularly found this season he hits the crossbar, then play heads into the Town half until Ferenczi is found offside.
Heckingbottom is booked for something or other and the Town kick is crap.
Ferenczi is through on goal with space on 36 minutes then passes to Town keeper Price, at the other end Walters strikes wide.
Lee has a good effort fantastically saved on 37 then into the 42nd Town have a free kick, the ball comes in and its 2-0 to Town, O’Callaghan is on the score sheet.
2 half time subs are made, one each side with Jeffers replacing Lee and Kay replacing P. Reid.
Barnsley start the 2nd half forcing Price to stretch but as ever Wilnis is there to knock to safety.
Garvan gives Nyatanga a gift in the shape of a ball on 47 minutes, but the less than enthusiastic Barnsley are still having problems with the goal direction. Speaking of problems with goal direction a minute later Roberts tries a shot, as we watch it fly through the sky almost in slow motion, we watch as it goes out for a Barnsley throw!
Peters shows off his relation to speedy Gonzalez before Jones gets booked for a foul on O’Callaghan, then Hassell is booked for something else, probably moaning that no one had brought him an Easter egg.
Town are not keeping possession well midway through the second half, but that’s ok, neither are Barnsley. Nardiello replaces Hayes. In the 63rd minute before O’Callaghan is kicked in the butt.
De Vos is ready with his big head to deny Ferenczi in the 66th minute then as Price dives catching and cradling the ball he dives straight into the back of Bruce leaving him down for treatment, I knew there was something suspicious about those two!
Roberts is replaced by Haynes on 70 minutes, and then Wilnis saves the day again.
Garvan tries to make up for his poor display with a good run onto Haynes, but Barnsley keeper Colgan is the on visiting player with anything in him.
Heckingbottom is replaced by Rajczi (I don’t think my spell checker has ever been so confused) in the 75th minute.
Peters keeps on showing his little magic legs before Ferenczi is booked for 5 different offences.
Garvan earns himself a yellow too from a daft challenge giving Barnsley a free kick taken by Nardiello, struck beautifully Price has no chance it’s 2-1.
Haynes tires to walk the ball into the net through 3 defenders and the keeper, urm no that doesn’t work but we end up with a corner, the corner is poor but then controlled by De Vos onto Jeffers, Haynes gets onto the ball and makes it 3-1 in the 81st minute.
The north stand desperately try to start a Mexican wave with short and little success as Walters gets into the box and sends onto Jeffers running free, it’s 4-1 on 85 minutes.
Rajczi sends Bruce to Belgium in the 88th minute, De Vos standing up for his skinny centre partner starts a ruckus, and both Rajczi and De Vos are booked.
In the last minute of normal time Walters has a shot but it is saved fantastically by the Barnsley no.1 and as Town prepare for a corner 4 minutes time is announced, The ball comes in and Walters is thrown down inside the box, no penalty is given but it’s ok as Town regain control the final ball is back with Walters and he adds himself to the score sheet too.
So yes the game finishes 5-1 and I really didn’t have time to write this, so Happy Easter, think of me surrounded with screaming kids as you tuck into your chocs, from one job to another…
