Town manager Jim Magilton says his sides slow start cost them points against Southampton today as they had chances to score.

Jim: “We needed one of them to go in.

 

“Southampton are a strong side, particularly at home, and you don't get many chances so when you do, you have to take them. I thought we were unfortunate not to get something out of the game.

 

“It's going that way at the moment for us and there are a few heads down in the dressing-room but it's my job and the staff's to get them up again on Monday and we'll do that.

 

“We have worked on defending free-kicks all week, especially as we knew they would be dangerous with Gareth Bale's delivery so it was very disappointing to let them have a free header.

 

“It was a very bad goal to give away and it gave Southampton a foothold in the game but my players showed great character to get back in the match and create openings.

 

“That is the character they have to show next week when we obviously have an important game against QPR.

 

“We will work hard again on the training ground to get things right. The most important thing though is that the players retain their self belief.”
