Town slumped out off the Carling Cup at the first hurdle, going down 4-2 on penalties against Peterborough.

The home side took the lead just before half time when Trevor Benjamin converted a penalty which was awarded after Naylor had brought him down in the box.

Just as The Posh looked to be heading into the draw for the second round of the cup, Town captain Jason De Vos headed in a 89th minute equalizer to send the game into extra time.

Guy Branston scored 95th minute goal for the home side before Billy Clarke got his first goal for Town just before the break in extra time.

Neither side could manage a goal in the second period of extra time so the game went to penalties.

Billy Clarke and Martin Brittain both scored for Town from 12 yards while Matt Richards and Alex Bruce both failed to convert theirs while Adam Newton, Dean Holden, Paul Carden and Mark Arber scored for the home side.
