New Town midfielder Martin Brittain has revealed that he turned down a new contract offer at St James Park in order to find first team football.

The 21-year-old midfielder has joined Town after signing a one year contract earlier today.

Martin: “I could have stayed at Newcastle. They offered me a new contract for a year but I decided the time was right to move on.

“I went to Coventry and Hull in pre-season as well as Ipswich but I have really enjoyed the two weeks here and it's easily the best club I have been at during the summer.

“I spoke to Kieron Dyer and Titus Bramble about Ipswich and they said it would be a great club for me to join and I can't wait to get going.

“I could have had another year at Newcastle but I want to play first-team football and it didn't look like it was going to happen there.

Ipswich have given me that opportunity and want to repay them for that this season.”
