Returning loanee DJ Campbell has paid tribute to the Ipswich Town fanbase, saying that he cannot thank them enough for their support during his time at Portman Road.

The QPR striker, who spoke of his frustration at his last game of his loan spell being the 3-0 defeat at Brighton on New Years Day, has scored 10 times in 17 games since joining the club on loan in October and says deciding to join the club on a temporary basis was a good decision.

Whilst the 31 year old will now return to Loftus Road and push for a place in Harry Redknapp's starting line-up, Town boss Mick McCarthy has not ruled out signing the player on a full deal and that is something the player is very much willing to consider should the chance arise.

Speaking to the the Official Club Website this morning, the former Aston Villa youth said: "I’ve spoke to the gaffer and he’s made it clear that he would like me here. He’s put something on the table and if everything is right for me and my family, then staying here would certainly be an option for me.

"I stand by my original choice to come here on loan ahead of the other clubs that were interested and you can see that Ipswich Town is going places.

“The fans have been great towards me and I can’t thank them enough. They’ve been top notch and even when we were struggling they were right behind us.

“The messages I’ve received on Twitter from the fans have been humbling and I’d like to think I’ve done what I set out to do, which was to score goals and help this great Club move away from the bottom of the league. 

“For now though I will be returning to QPR and they are in their right to do that as I’m still their player. We will have to see what Harry’s (Redknapp) plans are, as he holds the key, but you never know what the future holds.”
