Reports this evening are suggesting that talks with Mick McCarthy with regards to becoming the next manager of Ipswich are at an advanced stage and an appointment could be made as early as Wednesday.
There has been much speculation over the past 24 hours that McCarthy was Town's number one target and the front-runner for the role, but earlier today chief executive Simon Clegg played down reports that an appointment is set to happen quickly, only stating that interviews were underway.
However developments this evening are reported to be at a very advanced stage by a number of sources and there is expectation that the former Republic of Ireland boss will be named as Town's new manager on Thursday at the latest, with Terry Connor being appointed assistant manager and former Town skipper Matt Holland having some role on the backroom staff.
