Jewell Says Goodbye to Staff and Fans

Former Ipswich Town boss Paul Jewell has this morning said goodbye to the playing and backroom staff at the club and has a special message for Town's fanbase.

The 48 year old Scouser yesterday left the club by mutual consent following a very poor run of results which has left Town bottom of the Npower League Championship with around of the quarter of the season gone but says there are still plenty of reasons to be positive about the club and he wishes Town all the best.

“I’m gutted it hasn’t worked out and even now looking around the place, it’s so frustrating that it hasn’t worked out." he said in an exclusive interview to the Official Club Website.

"I could not have given anymore because I was desperate to see Portman Road packed and the Club being successful and it’s the right decision for me to leave.

“I’ve had a few managers on the phone to me yesterday and I told them, don’t hesitate as the job is now available because it’s a great football club and I really hope the Club goes on to great things because it deserves it.

“Ipswich is also in very good hands with the owner. Marcus doesn’t interfere in any decisions football wise and is right up there with the best chairmen I have worked with – and I have worked with some really good ones.

“I know there might be some people out there knocking him but sometimes people need to be careful what they wish for. He’s 100 per cent committed to the Club and wants success for Ipswich as much as anyone.”

Jewell this morning attended the training ground and Portman Road to say goodbye to those he has worked with during his 21 month reign at the club, wishing them all the best for the future.
