Town skipper Carlos Edwards has revealed that he believes not all of Town's squad are behind under fire boss Paul Jewell.

Jewell has come under increasing pressure in recent weeks after an extremely disappointing set of results for the club which led to the former Wigan boss himself question if he was the right man to lead the club forward, with a number of fans displaying banners calling for a change of manager.

The Scouser has since spoken to Marcus Evans and appears to have been given positive feedback about continuing at the club at least for the time being, but it increasingly appears that unless there is an improvement in the next two games, against Derby and Sheffield Wednesday that Jewell's fate could be sealed.

Now the latest blow to Jewell is that skipper Edwards has revealed he believes that some of the playing staff at the club would be happy to see owner Marcus Evans bring the 21 month tenure of the current boss to the end and that is unlikely to help his already fragile position at Portman Road.

 

Speaking to the local press, Edwards outlined his beliefs of a split in the camp: “To say all the players are behind the manager, I would say yes. But deep down inside, there are players that hide their feelings.

“I am not going to come out and say that we want the manager sacked or we want the manager to stay, I am just one person who wants him to stay. That’s just me.

“Sometimes sacking managers doesn’t really help, sometimes it does. It all depends on how the players react. I always say to players that some might not want him, but that doesn’t mean things will change under a new manager.”

Edwards also revealed that he thought that Jewell may have been sacked by now and can see similarities to that of the reign of former boss Roy Keane: "In a nutshell, it is the same situation. The owner is probably one of the most patient owners in English football!

“Time will tell. It could be possible (that we win tonight and Jewell leaves) but who is to know? Everyone can see that if we don’t get good results in the next few games, they could be his last.”

Town's match against Derby County this evening at Portman Road kicks off at 7.45pm.
