LEEDS AWAY, 22ND FEBRUARY - "Amazing. Fantastic. Brilliant. The commentators sounded like they were slitting their wrists. They kept asking if they could leave yet! It was hilairious. They said they'd been outclassed, given a lesson, and it could have been 5 or 6. " LEEDS AWAY, 22ND FEBRUARY.
Obviously, I am a toon fanatic. You may also remember I live in Wakefield. This is 10 minutes from Leeds. Therefore, a victory over Leeds is almost as welcome as one over the Mackems.
Under normal circumstances, I would have been at Elland Road. After all, the days when I could roll out of the house at 2 o'clock to go to a match are a thing of the past. I was there last year for the last minute 4-3 win, which is still the most fun I have ever had with my pants on! Unfortunately, this year work duties called, and so when the boys kicked off I was teaching kids in Halifax. Bummer.
I got a break about 3:20pm, and managed to get 60 seconds with a radio, obviously tuned to Radio Leeds. "Well, you've got to hand it to them," said the commentator, "they've come here and kept us quiet early on." Fantastic, thinks I. We've kept things tight at the start and the fans are starting to get restless. "Yeh, and to be fair, they've had one chance and they've taken it.."
GGGGEEEETTTT IIIINNNNNNNN!!!!!!
So, a brilliant start, but I had to get back to work. I didn't get back to the radio until 4:30pm. As I started my drive back to Wakefield, much to my stunned, delirious, disbelief, the commentators were now referring to our "excellent finishing" and our "three goals".
UUNNNNBBEELLLIIIIEEEEVVAAAABBBLLLLEEEE!!!!!
But, how many did they have? Go on! Tell me! There were 5 minutes of Radio Leeds babble before they said it.
"Leeds 0 vs Newcastle 3"
HHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
HHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Amazing. Fantastic. Brilliant. The commentators sounded like they were slitting their wrists. They kept asking if they could leave yet! It was hilairious. They said they'd been outclassed, given a lesson, and it could have been 5 or 6.
It was truly music to my ears.
Lads, I can only thank you for the night of goading, no make that week of goading, that you gave me this week. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Each and everyone of you is a hero to me.
Lets keep it going.
keep the faith
