Reported top target Pierre Michel Lasogga, the reason we were supposedly not interested in Bafetimbi Gomis, looks very much like he will not be arriving on Tyneside after all.

According to the German media, the striker is about to sign for Hamburg in a deal reportedly worth 8 million. Now for once this may have not just been down to our recruitment drive being completely useless, although no doubt that helped, but it does seem that the player was very keen to join Hamburg.

The trouble is, where does it leave us?

Our line appears to be functioning quite well, when it comes to keeping the cash where Ashley wants it, in his pocket, but it is not helping our threadbare squad.

It’s going to be a long summer, and without actually moving the line an even longer season.
