Whilst looking around the various news sites ahead of tomorrow's game it was disheartening to see Nile Ranger as the lead story on the Newcastle United football club pages. Ranger who the club finally got rid of last year is still bringing the club down with his court appearances. This time a trial for rape.
Yes, he may have legally been a player at the club at the time of the alleged offence but he is no longer and the lead for these “news” stories should not be “former Newcastle United player Nile Ranger”. – He plays for a different club now!
As an example the BBC Newcastle United FC club news page leads with the story implying from the photo and first sentence “A footballer accused of raping a woman in a Newcastle hotel room took a photo of the bedsheets, a court has heard”, that this has something to do with the football club. The Chronicle run's a similar headline. It doesn’t.
Nile Ranger tarnished the reputation of this football club for far too long with a string of court appearances, convictions and poor behaviour. It is high time that the main media stopped linking him to Newcastle Utd and heaping more bad press on club who finally saw fit to terminate his contract.
(This is a rant, not a news stories publicising the player- hence no photo and it will not appear as our lead story!)
