Newcastle United travel to Chelsea tomorrow on the back of a 3-0 Derby defeat, the resignation of Joe Kinnear and the sacking of reserve coach Willie Donachie. Nobody can deny it has been an eventful week for the club which is struggling with the loss of Yohan Cabaye and an ever increasing injury list. Newcastle go into the game with four defeats, one draw and one win from their last six games, whilst Chelsea host on the back of five wins and a draw from their last six.
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew will be without Fabricio Coloccini (knee), Yoan Gouffran (muscle), Cheik Tiote (hamstring), Papiss Cisse (back), Gael Bigirimana (knee) and long term absentee Ryan Taylor (knee).
Loic Remy is still suspended but Gabriel Obertan (knee) should be fit.
Chelsea are without Fernando Torres (knee) and Marcos van Ginkel (knee) but Mohamed Salah is expected to make his debut.
Pardew said ahead of the game;
“It’s an important period because we have got two really tough games – I think everybody would appreciate that – but we really do need to put a performance on the pitch that contains enthusiasm, desire and a real purpose, and that’s what we are going to do.”
Whilst Mourinho said;
“Just because we won against Man City, now people are changing their opinion. But, I know where we are, I know that we are good and working well and playing well, but we are going step by step. Let us enjoy the moment, the moment is good. We all like very much to be there, to be close to them. That’s good, but no more than that. Everything I say is mind games, everything I do is mind games, everything is mind games. The only thing that is not mind games is the results. That’s not mind games.”
Fact: Chelsea have only conceded two goals in their last 8 League games.
Fact: Newcastle are on their worst form of the season.
Fact: Newcastle have won three of the last four meetings between the two sides.
