Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Newcastle Utd v Sunderland

By Tyne-Talk
January 31 2014

Newcastle United host the Tyne-Wear derby tomorrow lunchtime on the back of a midweek draw against Norwich City. Newcastle have lost four, drawn one and won one from their last six games whilst Sunderland travel on the back of four wins, one draw and one defeat from their last six. Despite better form in their last six games, Sunderland are just two points off the relegation zone and fighting to lift themselves out of danger.

Newcastle have a weakened side thanks to the sale of Yohan Cabaye, the suspension of Loic Remy and the injury to Fabricio Coloccini (knee). Papiss Cisse (if he is still a Newcastle player by then) and Yoan Gouffran face late fitness tests whilst Gabriel Obertan has a knee injury.

Newcastle’s only signing of the transfer window Luuk De Jong will start on the bench due to lack of match fitness, despite Remy’s suspension but Pardew is expected to give him his debut infront of the home crowd of the Derby.

Sunderland will give late fitness tests to Steven Fletcher (calf) and Phil Bardsley (back) but Carlos Cuellar (thigh) is unavailable. Lee Cattermole is subject to various rumours of a move away from Sunderland at the time of writing but is expected to remain a Sunderland player.

Sunderland’s new signings Liam Bridcutt and Ignacio Scocco are not expected to start.

Fact: Sunderland have not won 3 consecutive League games against Newcastle since 1923.

Fact: Newcastle have failed to score in four of their last 5 League games.

This is what happens when you sell your best players and don't replace them.
I'm afraid we will be looking down as opposed to up now for the rest of the season.
Ashley out.

JESUS ! ! We are NOT defending, marking the man, running back, playing each other, NOT PLAYING FOOTBALL, what the f**k are we doing??

This poor game is NOT because we let Cabaye go, this is POOR management..

Do we have a plan at all??

Does the players know what to do in a 4-4-2 og 4-5-1 formation??

The short and only answer is; NO....

Play with the U21 team next time, it cant get any worse..

Shabolic display. Hope old Cashley bought himself something nice with that 20 odd mil, because he didn't use it to help the squad!

Agreed. 3-0 thrashing at home two years running is simply unacceptable.
