Gutierrez Signs For Norwich City On Loan

Newcastle United have loaned midfielder Jonas Gutierrez out to Norwich City until the end of the season.  Before the news was confirmed the 30 year old thanked fans over the weekend and wished his Newcastle team-mates well for the season.

Norwich City released the following statement from manager Chris Hughton;

"Jonas is somebody that will certainly bring experience - he has played close to 200 games for Newcastle, so he knows the Premier League very well.

He has been in England for five years, so there won't be that settling in period that you would have with some other players, and that is important, particularly in January when you need players that can go straight into the squad.

Jonas can play on either flank and in a central position, so he's a very welcome addition and we look forward to working with him."

Gutierrez said;

 

"It is an opportunity for me to get back in the game and to try and do my best for the team. Personally I want to do the right things on the pitch and win my place, and then for the team we want to finish as high as we can.

 

It is a tough league, all the games are difficult, but we have a good opportunity."

Yeh means we will get nothing for him at the end of the season.

Bit off but never mind. I suppose its better to loan him in light of the fact we won't be buying more than 1 or 2.

That way if we have huge problems he can be either recalled or given a new deal at the end of the year.

It says that he is contracted with us until 2015. Suppose the deal could have buy option at the end if he helps Norwich stay up.

It's disappointing that he's been unable to play and get a proper send-off by the fans due to penny-pinching.

On the other hand, it's fair to let him play elsewhere, especially in a World Cup year. It takes some strain off the wage bill, and within the next year or two he'd be surplus to requirements at Newcastle anyway.

its not penny pinching its common sense, he's no longer good enough to get in the first team and is our 3rd highest paid player on between 55-60K per week, if he plays 2 more games for the club he gets a pay rise which not only means he earns an extra 5k per week but due to clauses in both cabaye's and colo's contracts they would also be due a pay rise so we'd end up paying maybe an extra 10-15k per week to keep hold of a player who will only get into the first team through injuries to other players

Okay, it's a lot of pennies, but still trimming finances at the core of it. If there wasn't the clause in his contract; do you think he wouldn't be considered for the match squad?

He could still do a job for our first team, but I concede he would not consistently be in the first team (and not deserving of £60k+ per week for a fringe player).

So yes - it makes sense to let him go...doesn't mean I'm not sad to see him leave.



Interesting aside: He's made approximately 4 fewer appearances than Steven Taylor for the Newcastle first team squad in almost half as many years.

i'm sad to see him go, as i've said on many occasions he's probably been my favourite player over the last 5 years, unfortunately he's an expensive fringe player as you say.

Jonas having played 4 fewer games than Taylor in half the time isn't suprising, Jonas has an excellent injury record and has gone whole seasons without getting injured whereas i cant remember Taylor having a season without a serious injury.

we have 3 players who are definatel leaving in the summer, Gosling Jonas and Shola, once they leave we will be saving approx 110k per week
