Llambias Thanks The Fans After Resigning

Another day, another drama at St James' Park. After Newcastle United's managing director Derek Llambias resigned this morning, confirmed in a statement issued by the club, he gave a brief statement of his own thanking the fans for their support. Llambias has had a turbulant relationship with the fans over his 5 years at the club, making unpopular decisions, but effectively running the show on behalf of owner Mike Ashley.

After the news broke that he had quit the club, he said;

"I have had an incredible journey during my five years at the club, including some challenging times.

I will reflect with great fondness on my time in the north-east and in me, Newcastle United have a lifelong supporter.

I want to thank the staff for their hard work, our fans for their support of the club, and wish them all well for the future."

Whilst it is quite clear to anybody who is interested that Llambias resignation is as a direct result of the appointment of Joe Kinnear and the comments made by the new Director of Football, the businessman was very diplomatic in his own comments and refrained from discussing the club's current situation.

After all the slagging Llambias has had on Tyne-Talk I was expecting some positive posts about him leaving.

On reflection I think I'd rather go back a few days to the old arrangement. Llambias seems almost angelic now.

I feel we have been given our own version of Idi Amin but even he may not have been as big a fantasist as wor Joe.

i'm quite happy with the job Lambezee has done on the business side of things, he's obviously an astute businessman and would have been content with him staying on and having nothing to do with the footballing side of things.
