Newcastle host Anzhi Makhachkala tomorrow night in the second leg of their Europa League tie. Newcastle left Russia last Thursday with a clean sheet and a goalless draw but will need to up their game to win at St James Park with all to play for. Whilst Anzhi restarted their season at the weekend, after a winter break with a 2-0 defeat against Mordorya Saransk, Newcastle secured a win against Stoke City; a much needed confidence boost after a previous League defeat to Swansea the weekend before.
Newcastle go into the game on the back of three wins, two draws and one defeat from their last six games in all competitions, whilst Anzhi travel on the back of two wins, two draws and two defeats from their last six.
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has refused to risk midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa (hamstring), who re-joins Fabricio Coloccini (back) and Tim Krul (ankle) on the sidelines, whilst Yoan Gouffran and Mathieu Debuchy are ineligible for European games.
Shola Ameobi, who against the doctor’s orders featured for a short period of time last Thursday on the Astroturf, faces a late fitness test on an ankle injury sustained during the game.
Anzhi’s superstar Brazilian International Willian has also been ruled out of the game after picking up a hamstring injury in the first leg, which saw him substituted off, however he has failed to be fit in time for the game.
Pardew has reconfirmed that he is “in it to win it”. He said;
"We are in it to win it.
There's no point saying to me, 'Would the quarter-finals be a great achievement for you in your managerial career?'
It would be something I could put on my CV, but it wouldn't really mean much to me unless I win the trophy.
I have been to the FA Cup final twice and lost twice, and I see this competition as a higher standard of competition.
But I want to win and this club wants to win trophies, so we have a big agenda in front of us."

second match in a row marv has put the perfect ball into the box for cisse to score in the dying seconds! He is 1 of probably only 4 players we have who have the ability to play the sort of pass that cisse thrives on, the other 3 are cabaye anita and sissoko, cabaye is playing to deep and therefore playing the ball over the top, sissoko is either coming deep to start one of his surging runs or is playing just off cisse and doesn't get the opportunity to play this kind of pass and Anita hardly ever plays and after last night I cant see him being at the top of the list to replace cabaye if he's going to be out! Finally marveaux people criticise him for his defensive work but he has shown what he offers in attack the last 2 games he gloats around the box when we are attacking giving himself the opportunity to play in the striker, at home I would play him instead of Jonas and in away games start with jonas and bring on marv at the end of the match
Santon has put good crosses in, but not last night, I'd rather he'd played on the left.
