Tiote Arrested On Suspicion Of Fraud (Not Charged)

Northumbria Police have confirmed that they arrested a man on Tuesday 12th February on suspicion of fraud. That person has been named as Newcastle United midfielder Cheik Tiote.  The 26 year old was stopped by police on his way to the club’s training ground, and also had his £75,000 vehicle, a Chevrolet Camaro seized by police. 

Northumbia Police made the following statement;

“At about 1.30pm on February 12, a car was stopped on Benton Park Road, Newcastle, and a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of fraud in relation to driving offences.”

The Ivory Coast International, who has only just returned from the African Cup of Nations was released without charge, however investigations continue.

It is the second time Tiote has been in trouble relating to driving offences. In 2011 he had his vehicle (a BMW) seized from outside his house in Newcastle for failing to pay his car insurance.

Tiote returned to training and is expected to start for tonight's game against FC Metalist.
