Newcastle United are reported to have turned their attention towards Ajax striker Siem De Jong, brother of former transfer target Luuk De Jong.  Despite having initial talks rejected by the club, Pardew is keen for Newcastle to chase the 23 year old with a £9million offer, after failing to secure the services of Loic Remy, who favoured a bumper pay packet at Queens Park Rangers.

The Holland International, who was born in Switzerland, joined Ajax’s youth set up in 2005 before signing a 5 year professional contract with the club in 2008, this was then extended by a further 2 years in 2011. With 2 years left of his current contract the Dutch side which he now captains, will be reluctant to even begin negotiations, let alone allow them to progress to an advanced stage. It is also reported that De Jong wishes to move from the club on a free transfer and is therefore keen to see out his current deal.

Last year he rubbished a move away from the club, saying that he was happy to spend the next few years with Ajax. He told Voetbal Primeur;

"Last season was the first time that I played in the first team. It would be foolish to then immediately leave. Selection is different now that I've shown what I can do for Ajax

I'm only 22 years old, for me it's good that I have a few years stay at Ajax."

To be fair 10 goals in 15 games this season isn't bad nor is 58 goals and 7 assists in 127 starts

Almost a goal/assist every 2 game average (maths is NOT my strong point)

Here we go again more speculation it's starting to do my head in.Having said that we need a striker who can hopefully get us out of this mess! I dare say there will be more heartache to endure oh the joy that is Newcastle United!

Was he not the player who tortured Man City this season. Only seen him a little bit but seems a top player.

I had thought about him of someone had come in for Cabaye. I wouldnt say no at all, especially as we have missed an attacking midfielder all season.

Plus points would be he has played with Anita for a couple of years, it wouldnt just be another French player and they produce technically gifted players.

Its a thumbs up from me. We shall see.

Makes sense Carys I suppose. I know sometimes you have to pay more (bit hard with our owner), but the right players in January can push us on for the remainder of this and next season. The 'Papis' effect. Gives them a chance to bed in and less teams are looking to buy in this window. Less people want to sell to be fair but some of the players/teams we target normally have to sell.

Would be an exceptional signing in my opinion would be more exciting than remy for me any way.

However I think I will wait and believe it when he's wearing a newcastle top.

Until then i'll just assume we are paying his transport for a medical at qpr.
