Newcastle United target Loic Remy is rumoured to be going to QPR tomorrow for a medical, after Marseille confirmed a deal had been done with Newcastle. The club have now backtracked on that statement and said that an agreement was in place but they have offered the striker out to other Premier League clubs and at the end of the day the decision is his and not the clubs. The club have just set the wheels in motion, to spark a bidding war for the 26 year old, a game Mike Ashley is unlikely to play. Ultimately, money talks and despite QPR's current Premier League position, they appear to be prepared to offer Remy £90,000 a week, which is not an option at Newcastle.

One of Marseille's many many spokesman, sporting director Jose Anigo told RTL television this evening;

"We at OM reached an agreement with Newcastle, but we also talked with other English clubs.

We gave them a working basis and it remains up to Loic to choose the club he prefers in terms of their structure or sporting plans.

He is currently in England and is speaking with some clubs.

Everyone talks about Newcastle, but it is not just Newcastle because he is talking with other clubs.

We have to remain cautious. We have done our job and players and agents must do theirs. Nothing is done.

QPR have deep pockets and a manager (Harry Redknapp) known in England to have a good reputation, so I do not think Loic has closed the door on QPR."

Anigo also told RTL that there is a 3rd club who they have also agreed a deal with, though he failed to share those details.

Last week it was confirmed that Marseille had rejected a bid from QPR after Harry Redknapp flew out to negotiate a deal. At no stage in the Remy saga has a third club been mentioned until now.

I don't see anything wrong by Marseilles actions here.

They received bids for the player, they accepted both Newcastle's, QPR's and at least one other club. This gives the clubs permission to discuss personal terms, and it's in Remy (and his agents) interest to get the best deal.

The bidding war is with Remy and his agent. Hopefully Newcastle have already started brokering alternative deals...

Makes me wonder what we offered as apparently he signed a 5 year deal on £60k a week with QPR

Probably 40k maximum with bonuses I would guess.Such is life we must try and stay positive this is getting harder to do but as Newcastle supporters we are used to disappointments a lot of the time.Lets focus on this weekend and secure 3 points against Reading!

I'm sure there's a relegation release clause in that deal if it's £60,000 - or some other such lucrative sweetener. He made it clear previously he wasn't interested in a relegation battle - which suggests he wants a get-out clause in case they drop to the Championship.

Either that or 'Arry gave him a nice signing-on fee from Rosie (or rather, he got his accountant to - 'Arry's too intellectually incompetent to operate a bank account based in another country)
