The Independent is reporting that Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini has handed in a transfer request and is desperate to leave in January. Newcastle United have NOT confirmed this request, but nor have they denied it. Additionally, Coloccini nor his agent have come out to deny this rumour, something they have done previously.

San Lorenzo, the club Coloccini's father works for, have repeatedly made comments to the press in recent weeks, putting pressure on the Argentine International to return to his homeland as quickly and cheaply as possible.

The most recent comments come from club president, Matias Lammens, he said;

 “Coloccini to San Lorenzo is the plan A, B and C.

He represents much more than football – he played here six months and was champion, his father works at the club and is a fan.

The deadline is next week but we cannot do anything crazy with the budget.”

On 4th January Coloccini Snr said;

"It's difficult because he is key for them. He's an idol and the people love him. They've also sold an important forward and on top of that, lost matches that have put them in the relegation battle. He is dying to come back. He wants an amicable departure in order to not cast aside every thing he has done [at the club]...His plan is to return as soon as possible."

This was followed by comments from Lammens who added;

"We know he is a fan and wants to return, so there could be a possibility. It's not impossible, but of course the only thing that can accelerate the situation is Fabricio's intentions."

The reports were rubbished by Coloccini's agent Marcelo Lombilla who replied;

"The San Lorenzo thing arises because of a personal matter, and because his father is at the club.

He has only just renewed his contract six months ago. These stories always generate a buzz and generate illusions, but they are just illusions and nothing more.

These things written I just cannot believe."

Coloccini has been included in the squad to face Norwich City this weekend.

He can hand in as many transfer requests as he likes (assuming he has and frankly I don't) it doesn't alter the fact that they can't afford him.

No way on earth Ashley will allow him to leave for nothing.

From the rumour I've heard it has nothing to do with Pardew or anything else football related.

Dave is right, I would be gobsmacked if the club did another "Given" and let him go in January for next to nothing.

If there is truth in it and he wants to return home then fair enough. He should be honest about it and work as hard as he can to keep us in the league. Then in the summer he can go with the club's and fan's blessing.

Thing is he was in the team of the year last season and has over three years left on his contract. Maybe he could buy himself out of his deal but its not as simple as if he was on a free transfer. If true, you could Jonas following him.

He has a 3.5 year contract he wont go for nothing.

He has previously said his family isn#t happy hear - fair enough but don't sign a new 4 year deal then!

He's just bought a massive new house that he's renovating, i've never seen anything about his family being unhappy!

If it is true then pardew needs to pull him into the office tell him to be proffesional and see out the rest of the season and then he can leave in the summer on good terms!

As has already been said the other club involved cant afford him and i dont think theres many teams in Argentina could and it'll take a few million for him to buy out his contract!

don't know 10 million plus, his house is worth about one and a half (I know this its about 5 minutes walk from me), and bear in mind tax off his money,

10 million is an awful lot of spare cash.

Maybe in the summer I could see us doing that, not now surely I don't think of Ashley as a slave to his emotions, so its no good Colo appealing to his better side, I don't think he has one.

Colo had a big bust up with Pardew and heard from "a source" things got worse on Wednesday. That's why this has come out of the blue.

I was watching 'MOD' this morning and Pardew was asked if it was true that Colo had handed in a transfer request, he said no it was not true.

But possibly alluding to the alleged bust up with Colo, he went on to say other matters would be handled internally.
