Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Manchester Utd v Newcastle Utd

By Tyne-Talk
December 25 2012

Newcastle United travel to Old Trafford tomorrow afternoon for the Boxing Day clash against Manchester United. The home side host on the back of one draw, four wins and a defeat from their last six games in all competitions, whilst Newcastle go into the game on the back of two wins and four defeats from their last six.

Sir Alex Ferguson will be demanding a win from his side after his outburst at the end of the side’s draw against Swansea City at the weekend, whilst Alan Pardew has also said that he can be equally as angry and will not be settling for anything less than a good performance from his side.

Alan Pardew is without Hatem Ben Arfa (hamstring), Dan Gosling (knee), Yohan Cabaye (groin), Ryan Taylor (knee), Haris Vuckic (knee) and Steven Taylor (hamstring). Cheik Tiote is also unavailable after picking up a 5th yellow card at the weekend and now serves a one match ban.

Fergie is expected to bring Fletcher, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez back into the team, whilst Rafael (thigh) is expected to return pending a late fitness test. However, Nani (Hamstring), Anderson (hamstring) and Kagawa (knee) are all unavailable.

Manchester United have only dropped 3 points at Old Trafford this season and are sitting top of the league, whilst Newcastle are just 5 points from the bottom three.

Fact: Newcastle have only won 1 of their last 22 matches against Manchester United – that was last season at St James Park.

Fact: Sir Alex Ferguson has won 21 drawn 12 and lost 4 games in 37 against Newcastle United.

We're going to get battered. Wonder if Van Persie is alive?

I'll be delighted if we get a draw.

I'm sure nobody will agree with me but once again I hope Pardew doesn't play Ba and Cisse together but plays either one with Shola.

The results have been poor when they haved played together.

C'mon Newcastle (Sm128)

They both start with Marveaux.

Shola on the bench.

Apart from Shola, Ferguson and Obertan our bench looks really poor.

I just hope Pardew will make substitutions sooner rather than later if our attack isn't effective.

I'm really nervous about this match. (Sm159)

Gutierrez apparently injured hence not being in the squad. Wasn't anything around about it when I was doing the preview.

2-1 to Newcastle

If Cisse being offside had stopped us getting the goal I'd be furious.
