Shola Named In Preliminary Squad For Nigeria

Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi has been named in the preliminary squad for Nigeria's African Nations Cup campaign, alongside Obi Mikel (Chelsea), Victor Moses (Chelsea) and Danny Shittu (Millwall). The final squad needs to be put forward by 9th January 2013, with the competition starting on 19th January. However, Nigeria play Catalonia in Spain on 2nd January in a friendly.

Newcastle should cope relatively well this season with only Cheik Tiote, who is expected to be called up for the Ivory Coast and possibly Ameobi leaving for the competition.

Senegal failed to qualify for the event and so Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba will not be involved.
