Northumbia Police have confirmed that they are now investigating a second incident from the match between Newcastle United and Manchester City on Saturday lunchtime, after a blue flare was set off by the away fans. Previous reports suggested that no police investigation would take place. Northumbria Police released the following statement;

"A flare was thrown from the section containing Manchester City fans into a section of Newcastle United fans, no one was injured and it was quickly extinguished.

A second flare was set off in the section containing Manchester City fans. Officers at the scene carried out extensive enquiries, including checking CCTV and speaking with available witnesses. However, the person or people responsible are yet to be identified.

We take incidents such as this extremely seriously and enquiries are still ongoing. Officers continue to work with colleagues at Greater Manchester Police.''

Mark Steadman who was in the home section said;

"The lady behind me took the brunt of the attack after it bounced off my brother Paul’s back. It was quite scary at the time.

It spoilt the game for the people sitting in the area. The poor lady was still wiping residue of her clothes at full time.

I have a friend sitting in the other end of the ground who saw the smoke so I can safely say most of the ground must have seen it."

Manchester City have declined to comment on the situation.

This is the second investigation launched by Northumbria police, having already announced that they are looking into allegations of racism by defender Kolarov towards Albainian fans in the crowd.

How much coverage did them causing trouble against United get? Yet I've seen @#$%& all about this. More bias.

As a City fan, I can only say that these actions are not a representation of the majority of us, who are mainly embarassed by these cretins who call themselves fans.

Cheers for that mate, I was at the match and sit near to the away fans. Other than the flare, you lot were a credit as usual. Made me laugh when our fans sang, "WHERE WERE YOU WHEN YOU WERE SH17". Im sure you used to get gates over the 20k mark even when you were relegated twice.

I've got to say I always used to enjoy a few pints with City fans, have a @#$%& about the surrey supporting Man Utd glory hunters etc.

But the last few times there has been bother, I am honestly beggining to think its more than a minority.

The original city fans, back from before you were rich still seem sound, your new lot seem intent on bother
